ADDITIONAL HUNTER COMMENTS AND/OR OUTFITTER/BOOKING AGENT REBUTTAL
E-mail from Alex Northrop to Jaco Scott, August 29, 2012

My name is Alex from Oklahoma in the United States. My father and I are looking at putting a hunt together in South Africa. We saw an ad for your ranch in North American Hunter magazine. We both liked the prices. We are currently thinking we will be taking the trip in about 3 years from now seeing as my dad will be retiring. I am wondering if you could send me some details via email or thru postal services. We are unsure where we would have to fly into and unsure on any of the laws over there because neither of us have been to South Africa before. I hope we can stay in touch until the time gets closer.

Alex Northrop

Email from Jaco Scott to Alex Northrop, August 29, 2012:

Dear Mr. Northrop,

Firstly I would like to thank you for your interest in visiting our beautiful country.

I would say, if this is your first African safari, to plan on May month. You would fly from the U.S. into Johannesburg (South Africa). These flights arrive around 17h00. You will then fly with South African Airlink from Johannesburg to Polokwane. This is only a 45-minute flight, where we will meet you. The base camp is approximately 1:45hr drive from Polokwane. The flights from the U.S. to South Africa return are around $1600 per person.

You can also try to call Mr. Cassidy on (phone number redacted), he has a wealth of knowledge on the entire operation and travelling to and from Africa. As soon as you decide that you are interested in booking a safari, we will send you all the relevant documentations for the temporary importations of your rifles. We also do have rifles available for our clients that prefer to travel without their own. A lot of our clients use them from a .300 caliber and bigger. As soon as you decide when you would like to come on your lifetime safari, we check our availability for the specific period, and then send you all the paperwork.

Please let me know as soon as you have decided on a date that will suit you. We are already taking bookings for 2014 and a couple in 2015, so our dates are filling up pretty quickly. Please don't hesitate to contact me as soon as possible. We have also made an exemption to the clients that are responding to the advertisement. We fix their price at the advertised rate, even if it is booked three years in advance. To take advantage of this offer, you will have to book as soon as possible.

Please be assured of our best service at all times and making your African dream come true.

Kind regards,
Jaco Scott

Jaco,

Just wondering how does the trophy fees factor into the prices? Is it if I shoot a trophy then I will have to pay that trophy fee or is that trophy fee factored into the total cost?

Just last night my father and I were taking about heading out there. We are definitely thinking April or May 2015.

How much time between booking the trip and the actual hunt do you need the full amount?

Thanks for all the help. I am looking forward to making my first trip to Africa.

E-mail from Jaco Scott to Alex Northrop, September 3, 2012:

Dear Mr. Northrop,

Thank you very much for your response. The package price includes the specified day fees and trophy fees. It is only when you hunt other trophies that are not included in the package, that you pay extra.
I cant book you the last week of April or the first half of May 2015. These are prime dates, but if they do not work for you, let me know asap so that I can try and see if we can work something out. The first thing we have to do now is get your dates locked down. This is the first thing that you need to attend to.

When booking a safari we usually require a 50% deposit and the rest is then payable 60 days before your arrival. In the case of the clients responding to the advertisements in North American Hunter, we have made an exception. These clients only pay $1,000 deposit, to fix the price and make sure that you have a spot in the required period, and the rest will then become payable 30 days prior to arrival.

I look forward to have you over in Africa. Please be assured of our best service at all times.

I am eagerly awaiting your response to the dates that will suit you.

Kind Regards,
Jaco Scott

E-mail from Jaco Scott to Alex Northrop, December 3, 2014:

Hi Alex,

Havent heard anything from you. It seems that you are no longer interested in the Safari. I have clients that are interested in your dates, that are willing to pay immediately.

Since you havent answered any of my emails I have no option than to sell your dates.

Kind Regards
Jaco Scott

****

E-mail from Alex Northrop to Jaco Scott, December 3, 2014:

Well Jaco I guess if you are selling my dates I would appreciate it if you give me mine and my dad's deposit we sent to you to lock our dates that you have now sold. Thanks

****

E-mail from Jaco Scott to Alex Northrop, December 3, 2014:

Hi Alex,

I take note of your emails, I have extremely busy and havent had the time to reply.
You undertook to make a payment, but ignored all my e-mails, what should I make of this? When clients do not come back to me, I have to assume they are interested anymore.
The worrying fact is if a client commits to make a payment and then doesnt, I cant simply assume that he will ever make the payment. I have sent the discounted rate and an agreement, to which you did not respond. What if next year comes and you then ignore the e-mails again? Due to what has transpired now I would at least expect 50% of the outstanding amount to be paid by latest tomorrow.

Otherwise I have absolutely no assurance that you will be able to make the rest of your payments.

Hope we can work this out.

Kind Regards
Jaco

E-mail from Alex Northrop to Jaco Scott, December 3, 2014:

There is absolutely no way I will pay you money tomorrow. You put me in the position not to trust you, forcing me to pay when in our agreement 2 years ago you said I did not have to pay the remaining balance til at least 60 days before my hunt. Now you are forcing me to pay 50% now. Sounds to me like this is a scam and you are trying to force me into paying more and then when I do and I fly over there you probably won't be at the airport and then I'm stranded there.

E-mail from Alex Northrop to Jaco Scott, December 3, 2014:

I will be sure to make sure I post all this online. Whether or not this is legit or not. Terrible business practice on your part. Thanks for destroying a 10-year-dream

****

E-mail from Jaco Scott to Alex Northrop, December 4, 2014:

Alex,

I have read your e-mails and wish not to respond to every little accusation you have thrown my way. I also choose not to get involved in a teenager mudslinging match.

The fact of the matter is, you made a commitment which you now cant honor. For this, you are blaming me. I doubt if I destroyed your dream, maybe you must look at affordability before you start dreaming.

I have been in business for 20 years and have thousands of very satisfied clients that have become my friends. I have forwarded your threats to some of my attorney clients in the US. You are more than welcome to publish anything you please. I have been advised to urge you to rethink that stance as that would most certainly cost you loads of money. I would hate for you to pay all these legal bills.

Regards
Jaco

E-mail from Alex Northrop to Jaco Scott, December 4, 2014:

Well the agreement that I signed back in October 2012 said I had 30 days prior to the start of my hunt to pay the balance. I paid you my deposit and you now have broken the agreement. We have paperweight will confirm this. You can go ahead and refund my deposit. Thank you. I hope you find this to be fair.

****

E-mail from Alex Northrop to Jaco Scott, December 8, 2014:

Our agreement with you Jaco was pay a 1000 dollar deposit to lock in our dates. My dad and I did that and we also signed and faxed the agreement to you. Now you have broken that agreement and sold my dates. I trust you find this fair and you understand. If in 30 days we do not have our deposit further action will take place. I hope we can resolve this peacefully.

Thanks

E-mail from Alex Northrop to Barbara Crown, December 29, 2014:

I have a problem with an outfitter (Jaco Scott) from South Africa. He sold my dates that I have already paid a deposit for and signed a contract with him as well. He sold my dates and will not refund my deposit. He sold them because I didn't take advantage of a discount he offered for his 2015 clients. I am wondering how to I get something in your newsletter about this so that this doesn't happen to anyone else? and also do you know who i should contact at SCI?

I appreciate any and all help.

Thanks again, Alex

****

E-mail from Alex Northrop to Barbara Crown, January 5, 2015:

I have a copy of the contract. Emails from 2 years ago when I first started to plan this trip. I also have a receipt from the bank when I transferred the money to his account. When is a good time to call you?

****

E-mail from Alex Northrop to Barbara Crown, January 28, 2015:

we both sent our deposit of a $1000.00. I have sent on eveyrthing I have in emails. I was in a transition to a new job and lost several emails from my cargil.com email address. he told me that he sold my dates because I wouldn't respond to him quick enough to take advantage of his discount. in all the emails we had back and forth he only required 1000 until 30 days before the hunt. he has never responded back from my last email.

I did everything he asked of me and my dad. we sent the deposit and he cancelled the dates, not sure what else I could have done.

****

E-mail from Jaco Scott to Barbara Crown, March 8, 2015:

Dear Barbara,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for the opportunity for setting the record straight. I do however reserve my rights to legal action.

Alex obviously didnt furnish you with all the facts and is malicious in doing so. (Even the e-mail address). I have attached some of the e-mails.

When he inquired regarding a hunt in 2012, I didnt really want to accommodate him as his inquiry was in the far future and who knows if he could still afford it. The email states very clear that a deposit was to lock the price and secure a spot, not a specific date. In Nov 2014 we ran another special. This special is also attached. As soon as a client commits to make a payment, the agreement changes, by law. Alex undertook to take advantage of the offer, but the promised payments never showed up. I have had to turn down several top end Safari Clients in the course of 3 years, this comes at a price far exceeding $1,000, which I now hold Alex liable for. Through experience I have learnt that clients like Alex might not be able to pay at all, I therefor gave him an option to pay, which he didnt.

Alex thereafter kept on ignoring e-mails. Therefore, I knew that Alex cant afford this safari and is trying to get around commitments and at that stage repudiated the unsigned agreement. He started threatening me and my response is very clear. He even telephoned Mr. Cassidy, who is a very close friend of mine, to badmouth me.

I have been in business for 20yrs and have many satisfied clients. Alex has been warned regarding his malicious intentions and I will now instruct my US attorneys to initiate legal action against him. I will hold him, his father and anyone who associates with them responsible for any loss of good name. I will now also circulate his name at our Department and he will not be allowed into South Africa.
