Comments: |
We had no problems with the Firearms or ammunition. All of the bags were checked through Frankfurt direct to Windhoek and Atlanta on return. We had a recurring issue with each leg of Air Namibia flights where my father and I sharing the same name (Sr/Jr)would be canceled as a duplicate booking. This was quite a headache, and while we never missed a flight we had multiple battles with each ticket counter to get my father on board. This was brought up to Air Namibia HQ each time and they assured us it was corrected only to have happen on all four of our Namibia legs. |

SUMMARY
REMARKS |

| Problems
of Hunt: |
This was 7th safari to Africa and my first to Namibia. I chose Namibia as a Safe Destination where I could bring my family along to enjoy Africa and Celebrate my 50th Birthday. With my father, wife and 3 daughters along it was going to be a tall order to keep 4 non-hunters and 2 hunters busy for 15 days. Understanding all of the Logistics of starting in the Desert highlands for 2 days, moving to the Caprivi for dangerous game to hunt 3 different conservancies in 10 days and then back to the Desert to finish the hunt out at the Panorama camp, well it was a difficult task. That said, I had hoped for a much more organized situation. There were many issues including last minute Leopard applications and logistical issues with the camps that had the family awaiting transportation and many other operational problems. Understanding this is Africa and things do happen beyond anyone's control....most of these issues could have been avoided with proper planning and communication. I shared with Jamy that he needs to hire someone to run the operations and communication of his business. It was a Great experience for the entire family, but It could have been better with proper planning. |

of Hunt: |
Spending my 50th birthday on the great Continent of Africa, surrounded by friends and family doing what I love more than anything else....Hunting!!! Truly a great experience for the family as they visited 3 countries:Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. The Family visited Caprivi National Park, Chobe National Park and Victoria Falls. My daughters were able to visit a Elementry school and donate a Safari cares bag full of school supplies and spend part of the day with the children. I was able to take great Old Warrior Bull Hippo, A respectable Cape Buffalo Bull (given I only had a day and half to hunt)and a very exciting Own-Use Non-Trophy 40lbX40lb Bull Elephant. Having my 76 year old father with me hunting Zebra (Burchell and Hartman's) Lechwe, Steenbuck, and Gemsbuck. Truly a grand time! |
| Equipment
Recommendations: |
General Safari gear for the desert. Be prepared to get wet hunting the Chobe and Kwando River areas for Buffalo and Hippo. |

| Why? |
Jamy and Jan are truly great PH's with a great staff. They took solid care of the entire family. While not perfect logisitcally and the Leopard hunting was never what I had hoped for we had a great 15 days of hunting, sightseeing and game viewing. We had some confrontations with Cow elephants and they both handled them in a exceptional manner. The Conservancies while not as prisitine as some of the Government Concessions (people living in and around the conservancy) I had hunted in other countries were a great hunting value and held plenty of game. A great experience for my entire family.....what a way to turn 50! |

It was truly a great experience for the entire family. The Hippo, Buffalo and Elephant hunting was exceptional. While it was a tall order I was hoping for a better run at the Leopards. That never seemed to be a real focus. Understanding anytime you can balance all the requirements of a family vacation, a 50th B-Day party on the banks of the Zambezi, a hunt with 4 of the Big 6 on the list and you can take 3 of the 4. Well, I have hunted long enough and hard enough to call that a success! You always need a reason to start planning the next hunt. I would not hesitate to recommend Jamy Trout Safaris. Mac Plymale
