Kenya UpdatePublished: May - 2002 Our report last month about "hunts" being sold in Kenya to international hunters has jarred loose some interesting comment. For one thing, according to a source we trust, Richard Leakey, the former director of Kenya Wildlife Service, has confirmed that Notice 120 remains in force. That Notice, of course, was the one that closed hunting in 1977.
What's really interesting is the follow-up comment Leakey authorized our contact to pass along. It reads: "Tourism in Kenya is off between 70 and 80 percent since September 11. I (Leakey) believe you can tell him (Don Causey at The Hunting Report) that there is a strong likelihood that legal hunting will return to Kenya in the very short term." ........(continued) |
