Update On Botswana Outfitter Johan Calitz

There is some good news for clients who have safaris booked with Johan Calitz in Botswana. The Hunting Report has learned that Calitz will indeed be allowed to conduct safaris this year. Earlier this year, you'll recall, we told you Calitz was under investigation for various incidents that took place during the 2001 safari season. Later, we told you the Botswana Game Department had refused to issue him a PH license. That led to concern that his Tourist Safari Operators license might be in jeopardy as well.
Not so, according to a gentleman by the name of Osean Kebonyemodisa, who identified himself to us this past month as director of the office in charge of the investigation into Calitz. In a phone interview, he confirmed to us that Calitz was going to be allowed to hunt this coming season. No, he was not prepared to say that Calitz had been completely cleared of all charges, or that his personal PH license was being granted, but he had liased with Botswana Game Department officials on the matter, and he was prepared to say that Calitz' company was going to be allowed to operate this coming year in Botswana.
