Wayne Wagner of Wayne Wagner Safaris tells us he did much better this year on those special elephant safaris he won the right to conduct in Kruger National Park this past year and the year before (for a quick rundown on these hunts and how they came about, see the February 2001 issue, page 3). The jumbos he took this past year weighed 69 x 68 and 57 x 55 pounds, which is far better that the 35-plus pounder and the 50-pounder he took the first year. The buffalo he took this past year were both over 41 inches.
At press time, Wagner said he has made a bid to conduct the hunts again this coming year, but has not yet been told whether his bid was accepted or not. "What makes these hunts really exciting," Wagner said, "is the possibility that a truly huge jumbo will wander through while we are hunting!"
