The 10 clients we know to be in Tajikistan at this writing were all booked by Robert Kern of the Hunting Consortium (Tel. 540-955-0090), who said he was "completely comfortable" with the risk level associated with travel to Tajikistan. He called the country "safer than usual" because of the presence of Russian paratroopers on the Tajik/Afghan border. "We are business as usual in Tajikistan," he said. "End of story."
At the risk of alienating some subscribers, we beg to differ with those of you who are cutting and running. Such behavior is not surprising among eco-tourists, but it is surprising among hunters. The infrastructure of world hunting that we have built with our hunting fees is at risk right now. The livelihood of guides and outfitters is in jeopardy. An entire community and culture hangs in the balance. The needed action is for you to go hunting.
