Getting back to the terrorist attack on the United States for a moment, it's fairly well known that a lot of US military bases around the country open their gates in the fall and winter to hunters. Not this year. Word reaching us is, a number of bases around the country have closed, or are planning to close, their lands this year in light of the ongoing threat of new terrorist attacks. We are monitoring the Defense Department web site and will be posting what we learn in bulletin form to e-mail extra subscribers.
In the meantime, be aware that the early oryx hunts that were to be held in Socorro County, New Mexico, just north of the White Sands Missile Range, were cancelled last month by the Fish and Game Department and that White Sands officials were seriously considering closing all hunts on range property this year. A decision will probably have been made by the time you receive this. We'll post what was decided on our website (www.HuntingReport.com) and in next month's issue.
