The latest wrinkle in red stag hunting in Argentina is Ted Turner's purchase of the famed Estancia de Collon Cura. Turner's people are not ready to talk about plans to open hunting here, but the word we hear is some hunting is going to be available within the next 12 to 24 months. We plan to follow this development closely as the Estancia de Collon Cura is a gem of a property with some absolutely dynamite red stags. The credit for that, we understand, belongs to current ranch manager Mario del Campo, who has made great improvements to the stag hunting on this property. He has severely curtailed hunting, and he has culled off surplus animals and inferior stags. Even more important, he has stopped virtually all of the poaching that used to take place on this property.
The upshot is, the first season of hunting on Estancia Collon Cura should be outstanding. I have received very reliable reports that there are many excellent trophy stags there. There are also numerous trophy-quality wild boar and very abundant valley quail and excellent trout fishing. This ranch has a very comfortable lodge with all amenities and serves up excellent food and wines, with a heavy emphasis, of course, on top-quality beef. I'll file an update on this hunting opportunity as soon as details become available.
