"Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is mandated by the government to manage the conservation of wildlife in the country. The issue of `allowing big game hunting on private land' was not a KWS proposal. This was an initiative by the landowners who forwarded it to the Kenyan government. The government is still studying the proposal from the landowners and has not made any decision yet. KWS will implement whatever decision the government comes up with. Hunting has not been reopened and there are no concrete plans to do so now." Kioko did not mention it, but election-related domestic strife may be one possible reason for inaction on the hunting proposal.
