Code of Sport Hunting Conduct for Africa
(Editor Note: The following code of sporthunting conduct has just been issued by Safari Club International as a behavioral guide for clients and hunting professionals alike on the African continent. The code is considered a general guideline, incidentally, not a formal ruling. It can be modified by officials in the different hunting countries. Of most immediate interest is the accompanying definition of "fair chase." It almost surely offers insight into the criteria that will be used to determine which southern African lions will be permanently thrown out of the record book as "canned.")
Hunting to take place on the principles of fair chase, as defined.
Abide by relevant laws, other legal requirements and recognized codes of conduct.
Enhance by action, the survival of wildlife populations, protection of biodiversity and the promotion of sustainable utilization.
Ensure humane practices in the utilization of wildlife.
Use of correct hunting methods and equipment.
Engage at all times in fair and honest practices.
Educate others to the benefits of sustainable use, conservation, correct procedures and the ethics of hunting.........(continued)
