The news here this year is that Connely has just received access to an additional 9,000 acres of private property that have not be hunted in six years and before that received only minimal hunting pressure from the owner. While scouting the area, Connely has personally identified six bucks scoring over 150 points in one area and eight others scoring over 170 in two other sections. One buck was a 14-pointer with double drop tines and a 22- to 24-inch spread!
Connely has 18 spots open for the rifle season (November 18 - 26) and black powder season (October 28 - November 5). He has another 30 spots for archery season (October 1 - December 31). Only four of the rifle/muzzleloader openings are for the new properties, but as previously reported, Conelly's old property has produced lots of big bucks too. The hunts on the new property will not be as comfortable as Conelly's other spots because he has not had the time to set up the tower blinds he usually uses. Instead, hunters will use tree and ladder stands. Hunts are conducted 2 x 1, with the guide leading hunters to and from their stands and communicating via radio. Hunters stay in motels near the area they are hunting. The cost is $2,250 for a three-day rifle or muzzleloader hunt, including meals and motel accommodations.
