Curtis says he is pleased with the herd conditions, which are rebounding since the four-year drought ended two years ago. You should go prepared for a variety of weather, including even snow, as the hunts are conducted from elevations that range from 5,000 to 7,500 feet. In the past, the weather has played an adverse role on several hunts, especially when the hunters were not prepared. One should not expect to see the number of bucks found on some of the Sonora ranches, but from what has been killed by only a handful of hunts the last several years, there must be some whoppers there. A six-day hunt costs $3,500, which includes the gun permit, hunting license, paperwork processing fee and transportation to and from El Paso, Texas.
