At press time, we reached Cotton's wife, Joanne, who said Cotton's agreement with the government continues through the year 2000 season, at which point all safari areas will be reallocated. A member of the Mulla family, reached in Germany at press time, said he understood this was true but could not say for sure until the purchase agreement had been finalized. In the meantime, the matter bears watching, as does the larger issue of the year 2000 allocation. Operators say the government has promised to announce soon exactly how the allocation will be handled. For obvious reasons, it is not smart to book a safari to Tanzania beyond the year 2000 until that announcement has been made. Stay tuned.
