The outfitter for this hunt, Ed Tibljas of Triangle T Outfitters, has video-taped several mule deer that he estimates will go over 200 B & C. He says scores last year would have been higher if not for powerful winds during the week the hunts were conducted; they were strong enough to force the deer to take shelter in the thickest brush, and hunting was difficult. Learning from that hard experience, Tibljas has staggered this season's hunts out across the season. Not only are these deer large, they are also plentiful - on the first day of the hunt last year, Tibljas says hunters saw 86 shootable bucks.
As regards when to go, the whitetail season runs November 6 to January 3, and the desert mule deer season runs November 27 to December 13. The whitetail rut falls approximately between Thanksgiving and December 15, so that should be prime time. The price of this hunt is $7,500 per deer hunted, even if not taken. All hunts are scheduled for four full days of hunting on a 1 x 1 basis with five nights' accommodations. Additional days of hunting cost $300 each. Hunts are conducted on foot, on horseback or safari style with the use of a four-wheel-drive vehicle making frequent stops to glass, and then stalking from there.
