"This is not an area where a beginning client should come, expecting to see everything. However, it does provide some good general game, with cats and elephants everywhere. It is not uncommon to see leopards up to three times a day. 99 percent of the baits we put out are hit."
Wilson says he anticipates hunting a second area next year where there is especially good buffalo hunting.
The other Mozambique news centers on that huge concession along the eastern border of Kruger National Park. The area has been under the control of a company called Gaza Safaris for many years, but has actually been hunted the last two years by PH Sandy McDonald. Now, Gaza and McDonald have had a disagreement, it seems, and Gaza Safaris has reasserted control of the area. The upshot of the dispute is, some sharply discounted lion and leopard openings have opened up. The 16-day lion hunts are being offered at $750 per day, with a trophy and license fee of $3,800; and the 12-day leopard hunts are being offered at the same daily rate, plus a trophy and license fee of $2,800.
