At press time, it was unclear why the government had opted for wholesale reallocation of areas. It was also not clear just what criteria would be used to name new concession holders. One good thing about the reallocation is, it gives the new Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA), about which we have written before, a chance to put its mark on the safari industry for years to come. We'll have an update soon. In the meantime, clients booked into Zambia this year have nothing to fear from the reallocation, as it won't take effect until 2001.
