Two other outfitters to contact are Bruce Pelletier at Gentle Ben's Lodge, who charges $1,350, including meals and accommodations for six days; and Harvey Calden at Tim Pond Camps and his moose hunts go for $1,995 all inclusive. Pelletier hunts the SW, SC, and C zones, while Calden hunts the SW zone. These outfitters can provide all the services for a quality hunt, plus they will scout from the air (Calden flies his own plane) prior to the season. This is absolutely necessary if you want to locate trophy animals.
If none of these outfitters works out for you, contact the Maine Professional Guides Association. They maintain a list of guides and do a generally good job of policing their ranks. There's a strong tradition of quality guiding and outfitting in Maine, and it's possible to find good accommodations and guiding in every zone.
