Up in Congo (Brazzaville, Congo; not Kinshasa, Congo), the word reaching us near press time is, Eric Stockenstroom of Congo Safaris has given up for now trying to hunt bongo. The problem, as we've reported before, is a law on the books in Congo putting bongo off-limits. The former government of that country issued Stockenstroom licenses anyway. Not so, the new post-war government, which has been hard to deal with on this matter. In a phone interview near press time, Stockenstroom said he had decided to simply throw in the towel until the law outlawing bongo hunts is officially removed from the books. His decision also puts on hold the plans PH Rudy Lubin of Associated Professionals of Haut Chinko had to begin hunting a part of Eric's vast area. More details as we get them.
