Ridge Taylor Update

Well, outfitter Ridge Taylor did it again. Seems one of his California clients, Shannon Stuart, has taken an excellent mule deer buck that grosses 200 6/8 B & C points and nets over 198 points! Stuart killed the buck in southern Idaho while being guided by Cash Taylor. Taylor's clients also took two other bucks this past year - one with a 34-inch spread and the other in the 29-inch range. Long-time subscribers know I recommended laying off this state a while back after the bad winter of 1992/93. Then last year I reported on that huge buck Dr. Larry Barr took with Taylor - a new No. 3 in the B & C book and No. 1 in the SCI records. This makes the second year in a row that Taylor has been able to produce some great bucks for his clients in Idaho, reinforcing my opinion that the state once again deserves the attention of trophy hunters.... While we are talking about Idaho and Boone and Crockett, that organization has just released its Records of North American Caribou and Moose. It may be ordered for $24.95 plus $4.25 shipping ($6 shipping outside the US) from Boone and Crockett. One of the categories represented is for Shiras moose and, of course, Idaho is well represented. Isn't it interesting that non-residents are not allowed to obtain a moose permit in this state? By the way, they issued 789 permits to residents last year. I'm willing to bet any amount of money that they didn't all hunt on private land - meaning that you and I partially supported their hunts on the National Forests.
