Van Brunt gives Duncan's guiding and outfitting excellent ratings in all particulars, saying, "This hunt was flawless in every respect. I have known Bruce Duncan for nearly 30 years, hunted with him many times and have recommended him to other hunters. His new lodge is fantastic in every respect, and his equipment is all new. Hunting is by truck and snowmobile from the lodge.
"Both cougar and bobcat populations in his hunt area are strong, and the trophy quality is great. I took a great cougar, and my hunting partner took a monster 32-pound tom bobcat. I wanted a bobcat, but the weather did not cooperate.
"Bruce takes only a handful of cat hunters each winter, and will let you return for cougar until you take one, with no additional fees. Some hunts are on call, so good conditions can be assured. The area has proven trophy quality, and tags are over-the-counter. The season is December 15 through February 15. Bruce has owned the outfit for 23 years and hunted the area for 40 years, and his dogs are superior.
"It is not possible to relate how satisfied I was with this hunt - same as every other hunt I've done with him. I have two friends already booked and am going back myself for bobcat."
Van Brunt gives the cost of his hunt as $5,900 for cougar, $1,500 for bobcat with a $500 trophy fee if the bobcat is taken. He also notes that the $350 he spent on licenses included a wolf tag. Wolves, he says, are common in the area, and they saw plenty of wolf sign. But in the thick cover in this area they are simply a target of opportunity.........(continued)
