"The Leuenbergers have a beautiful area to hunt near Fernie, great camps and equipment (always excellent I borrowed and used one of their rifles), and their ethics and commitment are excellent as well. And this year we were blessed with great winter weather. It's always a delightful experience spending time with the Leuenberger family; I'd recommend that you book a hunt with them."
At press time we talked with Jill Leuenberger who told us that the Stones are in great shape and had no trouble with their cat hunt. "Cat hunts can be short and easy or long and brutal, depending on the cat and how far it travels. Our winter hunts are done mostly by truck and snowshoe, though we have snowmobiles and can use them in extreme snow conditions."
The Leuenbergers have one cat hunt slot (cougar, lynx or combo) open for December of 2013 (one cat is $6,500 USD, a combo, $8,000). They also have one slot for cougar in January. In winter, they can also offer an add-on hunt for wolf, which are common in their area. While it's probably too late to book a spot-and-stalk bear hunt (baiting is illegal in BC) for this month, Leuenberger told us they still have a few openings for elk in the fall of 2013. They normally charge $7,200 (USD) for an elk hunt, but those prices are currently "negotiable" to fill the vacancies.
