In report 9044, Rey details his hunt for Gredos ibex from January 9-12, 2013 on the Gredos mountain range near Avila, west of Madrid. He reports taking a silver medal ram. "We climbed and spotted. My wife came with me, so it was not an extreme hunt, but I think you need to be in good shape to enjoy this hunt ? we walked seven hours. Our PH knew that we were used to walking on the mountains. The landscape was wonderful with very big stones like in the Grand Canyon.
"After a beautiful approach (with an altitude change of nearly 700 meters) above a sea of fog, I had the opportunity to shoot a superb, trophy-class Gredos ibex."
In Report 9043, Rey outlines his January 12-15 hunt on Mallorca Island, where he took a silver-medal Balearean boc and another goat he describes as a hybrid Balearean boc. It's a mountainous area, but the hunt is not so physical because, if necessary, you can be driven on the forest road, and so you walk less. But if the animals are up high you need to climb and walk near beautiful cliffs! On my hunt we walked less because it was raining. Due to the rain the animals were down in the forest and not on the top of the small mountains."
On his Mallorca hunt, Rey says he took both a purebred Balearean boc and a hybrid but was not charged a trophy fee for the hybrid. "The priority was the Balearean boc, but the PH told me that it was also possible to shoot a hybrid. When I shot the hybrid no confusion was possible.........(continued)
