Lawrence K. Gates, Jr., hunted moose in Alberta with Leo Hurtubise of Keg Country Outfitters (780-645-3453), personal guide Bret Gagne, in late-September. (See Report 8901.) Gates says he took a 46-inch bull moose and a seven-foot 10-inch black bear. "The hunt was hampered for all species by unusually warm weather and drought," he says. "I was told this was a particularly bad year, but all the game that I saw was healthy, and I took all the animals I went for. I listed game availability for this year as average,' but I sincerely believe that in a more typical year it would be abundant.' Leo Hurtubise has been working this same area for 15 years and has the whole routine down."
At press time Hurtubise told us all his hunts for 2013 are currently booked, but that there is no one on his waiting list, and he still has a few moose tags available for 2014.
