"This past fall, my cousins had the pleasure of hunting whitetail deer with Ms. Jessie Coy on a private ranch near Glenrock. Our hunting party consisted of my cousin (a non-hunter from California), his wife (a five-day-a-week surfer) and their daughter, both also non-hunters, and his son Connor, the new hunter on his first deer hunt. Ms. Coy made all feel comfortable doing something foreign to them, engaged them in the process and also educated them on the value of regulated hunting to wildlife, communities and our culture.
"Connor took a nice buck with Ms. Coy's competent guiding, but more importantly, the entire family learned from the experience and Ms. Coy's demeanor, patience and competence. The result was not only a successful hunt for the young hunter, but three more hunting supporters added to our cause. Ms. Coy especially connected with the daughter and the mother, and while the mother stated she could not hunt herself, she fully understood why it appeals to many and confirmed she was fully supportive of her son as a hunter. The daughter now wants to come to Wyoming to hunt mule deer."
We heard from Jessie Coy in late September and learned that she was still in the process of clearing the last hurdles to obtain her outfitter's license. By that point, she had missed any opportunity to hunt the 2012 season. But, she told us, she was planning to exhibit at the Wild Sheep Show and........(continued)
