Copeland says Weth's sitatunga area is virtually untapped. He and Weth took a boat to a small island Weth had not hunted before and, after walking only 15 yards, came across what he says was a 27-inch sitatunga. "It is a vast swamp, and they have no idea just how many sitatunga are out there," says Copeland. He does not doubt that the area will eventually produce a 30-inch sitatunga.
Since previous hunters have warned that the Nile buffalo hunting can be hit and miss, I asked Copeland how his hunt for this species went. He confirms that this opportunity does require a great deal of time and patience. "There are a lot of buffalo in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and they will come out. Locals see them regularly, but you have to drive and walk along the road on the edge of the park in search of them."
Overall, he says Uganda has great potential as a hunting destination, and he enthusiastically recommends the experience.
