91-pound Elephant Taken in Botswanas NG41 With Johan Calitz SafarisPublished: November - 2012 I am remiss for not mentioning last month that a 91-pound elephant was taken in Botswana with Johan Calitz Safaris (011-27-56-2131633; www.johancalitzsafaris.co.za). The hunter was Tony Makris of the cable television show, Under Wild Skies. He hunted NG41, which is where Manuel Pariente shot a 104-pounder two seasons ago. You can see a photo of Makris' elephant in the Trophy Gallery section of our website. According to Tharia Unwin, who oversees marketing for Johan Calitz Safaris, they have secured hunting rights in NG41 through 2017.
Also in Botswana, subscriber Doug Shelly reports taking a 58x50 and a 61x60 pounder in CH1 and CH2 with Butler and Holbrow, agent Jeff C. Neal (918-299-3580; www.jeffcnealinc.com). He reports "tons" of elephant and other game. I've heard rumors of another 90-plus pounder taken but have not confirmed that yet.
