El Chupadero Ranch Outfitters (830-513-0689; www.ranchoelchupadero.com) is run by Alberto Valdes Fisher and the ranch is located in the Sierra del Burro Mountains of Coahuila. According to Kennerknecht, both Texas whitetail and Carmen Mountain whitetail deer are available on the property but he failed to take either, largely due to bad weather (cold and wet) and lack of time. He did take a good Crooki subspecies of mule deer (found only in Coahuila where, he says, only about 20 permits are issued annually) and what should be the new Number Four SCI collared peccary with a crossbow. "The animals I took and those harvested in our group where all in excellent condition and healthy." You may recall that Scott Chapman (see Report 7621) took a 12-point 150 SCI buck with a drop time here in 2009.
The outfitting, guiding and trophy care were all excellent, according to Kennerknecht. The food was incredible, and the camp, good, he says. "The guides were all very knowledgeable of the species and their travel patterns on the free-range 70,000-acre ranch we hunted," he says. "All guides spoke enough English to communicate and anytime there was a communication problem, someone close by could translate if needed. The guides worked tirelessly to make everyone's hunt the best that it could be.
