Campbell's hunt was primarily for axis deer, and he reports taking a 32-inch trophy. (See photo in our online Trophy Gallery.) "This was all spot-and-stalk hunting, there are no stands set up. The hunt is not very physical, and the land you hunt on is quite flat. We saw many, many animals, probably hundreds. My trophy was above average. The guide could judge the stags accurately and had good knowledge of the hunting area." He also reports that there are quite a few feral hogs on the property unless there is a drought. These can be taken by sneaking in on waterholes or as chance targets of opportunity.
Campbell stayed in what he describes as "a structure made from coolroom panels with a breezeway between the eating area and the sleeping section. The food was great, as was the guiding." Overall he rates the camp as good, the guiding, trophy care and outfitter service as excellent.
Campbell recommends the opportunity, saying, "Quality game is abundant, and you get to bust a few hogs as well." He gives the all-in cost of his hunt as $4,500, which included the trophy fee for one animal.
Since this is a new outfitter and a new opportunity, we are, as always, looking for additional feedback from our subscribers. If you hunt axis deer with Smith........(continued)
