As for big jumbo taken in Botswana this year, Tharia Unwin tells me PHs with John Calitz Safaris (www.johancalitzsafaris.co.za) produced one 92-pounder, two 80-pounders, 14 jumbo over 70 pounds and another 32 over 60 pounds. I also heard from Frans van der Merwe of Kgori Safaris (www.kgorisafaris.com), who you'll recall produced a 78-pounder for Hunting Report subscriber Peter Stein this season in hunt area NG43. He says they also took six other bulls over 60 pounds. In fact, he says 2011 was their very best season to date; they took a total of 21 elephant in their area. "We will be hunting NG43 again in 2011, as we have for the last 14 years," he said. "We expect the number of elephant tags to increase for 2012 as it has each year in the past."
