"On Your Own Alligator Hunts"Published: May - 1998 The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department issues alligator tags through a lottery for one of four public hunt areas. Three of these four areas are along the Gulf Coast, while the other is in southeastern Texas. The chances of drawing a public land tag are roughly five to 15 percent, but the application fee is only $2 and the tags only cost $50 to $100, in addition to the $300 non-resident alligator hunting license. Hunter success on these public land hunts varies between about 50 and 75 percent, but game officials offer a free orientation to all permitees before the hunts begin.
