In 2009, we reported on Waterburg National Park in Namibia and its promise for Cape buffalo, sable and roan. Jofie Lamprecht of Hunters Namibia Safaris had won the tender for this concession and predicted his clients would take some "massive" trophies. He has kept his word, producing a new Namibia number one Cape buffalo in 2010. (See articles 2526 and 2600.) Now, subscriber Jim Young reports taking a 45-inch sable that ranks number nine and a Cape buffalo that ranks number 11 in Namibia's record books.
Young hunted with Lamprecht last July and reports seeing three leopards, plus numerous roan and white rhinos. While Waterburg is blessed with abundant game, Young warns that hunting here isn't easy and requires tracking and stalking on foot many miles a day. Young took his buffalo on day three, his sable three days later. See photos of his trophies in our online Trophy Gallery.
