Three Hunters Report on Pronghorn Hunts In Wyoming

Three subscribers checked in this month with reports on pronghorn hunts in Wyoming. Subscriber Terry Hensley took an 80-inch buck on the 55,000-acre Silver Spur Ranch (307-327-6505) in south-central Wyoming this past September. Hensley says it was a fantastic hunt with great accommodations, superb food and tons of game. "I'm not exaggerating," Hensley promises. "We saw hundreds of pronghorn each day. Hundreds! We saw so many that the guides had to tell us over and over again not to shoot the first good animal we saw." The ranch terrain varies from rolling hills to steep drops and flat sage plains. The weather was clear and cool with daytime temperatures reaching only 65 degrees. Hensley reports that this is a physically easy hunt that anyone can do. He gives the cost as $2,250. Subscriber James Kenny also took what he describes as a "very good pronghorn" near Saratoga, Wyoming, hunting with Mark Condict of Grand Slam Outfitters (307-326-5035). Kenny says he saw more than 100 pronghorns and a dozen "shooter bucks" each day on his two-day September hunt. Game was so plentiful that three in his party tagged out the first day. Kenny rates the accommodations, food and guides as excellent, adding, "This is the third hunt I've booked with this outfitter and I'll be back again." He gives the cost of the hunt as $2,200, plus $512 for the license and tips. Finally, subscriber Mark Hampton sent us this report on a hunt he took with his wife: "I had promised my wife that when we retired, I would take her out West so she could experience a pronghorn hunt. We began by purchasing a preference point in 2010, and this year, we drew an antelope tag for Wyoming unit 110. We hunted near Meeteeste with Larry and Stephanie Altimus of Altimus Adventures.
