From Mozambique, I received a detailed hunt report on a leopard and buffalo safari to the Niassa Reserve with Kambako Safaris (jumbo@kambakosafaris.com). You may remember my 2009 reports on the hunting available in the Niassa Reserve (see Article ID 2346) and with Kambako Safaris (Article 2363). In my report on the reserve itself, I had told you about the impressive conservation programs practiced in the reserve and the quickly improving opportunities there, particularly for lion and leopard hunting. Subscriber Tim Herald, whom you may know from the Outdoor Channel television show Nosler's Magnum TV, says the leopard hunting he experienced there this past August was every cat hunter's dream. He writes: "I would give the entire area and operation a 10 on a scale of 1-10. Here's why: First, as Barbara has reported in the past, the camp is fantastic, especially as it is so remote. There is a walk-in cooler, 24-hour wireless Internet, 5-star food, a beautiful lounge/dining area with indoor/outdoor pool, spacious chalets, etc. The staff was wonderful from the coffee in bed at wake up, to the hostesses, and all the way down the line. Jumbo Moore oversees the entire operation, and his professionalism and cheerful personality have rubbed off on his entire workforce. My PH, Stu Taylor, was one of the best I have ever hunted with, and all of the hunters in camp felt that their PHs were of the highest quality, very hard working and extremely knowledgeable. "My hunt was in Niassa Block B, which is about 770,000 acres. There are no villages in the block, but there are 500 miles of road in the concession. Kambako has a bulldozer on site, and they are always cutting new roads to access remote areas. The Lugenda River flows year round and is the lifeblood of the concession. The terrain varies from rocky mountains, to open grassy areas, and miombo forest to lush riverine belts. The area is so remote that in 13 days, I never once heard a commercial jet or even a charter go over. It is as close to stepping back into old East Africa as I can imagine.........(
