Dos Plumas Safaris Gets Good Review For Bezoar Ibex Hunt in Turkey

In Turkey, subscriber Mike Ambrose is very happy with a hunt for Bezoar ibex handled for him this past December by Dos Plumas Safaris, who recently partnered up with Caprinae Safaris to conduct hunts throughout Turkey. Ambrose says he took a good ibex despite losing four of six hunting days due to cancelled flights in Europe. "Snow closed the airports and caused 1,000 flights to be cancelled," he says. He reports sleeping two days on the airport floor in Frankfurt and then waiting two more days in his hotel in Istanbul for his guns and luggage to catch up. Despite that, Ambrose says he took a nine-year-old ibex with 43-inch horns and 11-inch bases. "I would have loved to have the six full days to seek out a larger ibex, as some were spotted, but they disappeared never to show themselves again," he says. "My hunting partner arrived on time and took a 55-inch monster that was 12 to 13 years old." Ambrose hunted in the Finike District of Antalya Province, along the Mediterranean coast. He reports climbing to the top of a very steep mountain and then waiting patiently for the ibex to present a suitable shot at 300-plus yards across a canyon in heavy cover. "I will always keep a picture of him in my mind as he jumped to the top of a rock to survey his harem below," he says. "It is a beautiful and majestic sight." Ambrose gives a cost of $12,000 for his ibex hunt, which he says is reasonably priced. He has high praise for his guide, Resit Kaan Ozman, whom he calls the most experienced PH he has ever hunted with in Asia.
