Year-End Report From Botswana Elephant Hunting Operators in CH 8, NG 35Published: February - 2011 Still in Botswana, hunting operators in CH 8 and NG 35 have given me some end-of-season reports on their elephant hunts in 2010. You may recall I reported about some areas that came up for auction last summer and offered elephant hunting through November, where other areas end hunting in September. Mike Murray of Bottlepan Safaris (mikemurray@ iexchange.co.za; www.africanfield sports.co.za) tells me he did very well on that late season quota in CH8. "Many elephant bulls were tracked up daily, and we took superb bulls," he says. That includes an 80x67 pounder taken by client Doug Wall with PH Peter Hepburn. Hepburn also led hunter Alain Thibault to a 70x67. And PH Chris Dandridge put William Russell onto a 77x73 pound jumbo. He also had clients take two 60-pounders earlier in October. Another operator with good late-season success was Jeff Rann who reports taking three elephant over 70 pounds in NG35. This was also one of those specially auctioned areas I told you about. It borders the southern concessions of the Okavanago Delta, including areas that were closed to safari hunting in 2009. If Botswana offers any more opportunities like this for 2011.
