We have five reports already on file: three positive (IDs 7436, 5024, and 4603) and two negative reports (7211 and 2760) each with comprehensive rebuttals. In response to the most recent negative report, we received three reports (see Article IDs 2406 and 2428) in defense of the outfitter. We've just received another positive report, this one from Robert Cullen, who says that he could find nothing to justify the complaints lodged against Elkhorn Outfitters.
Cullen hunted mule deer with Elkhorn in November and says the game was abundant and the quality was just what he had been led to believe. "This hunt was promoted to us as a place where 180-plus mule deer were available and that we could easily get 160- to 170-class deer. While we were hunting, a 189 was killed and another similar buck reportedly seen. Both of my friends killed deer in the upper 170-class." Cullen himself reports that he took a 167.
Cullen's group did not go up into the mountains, and he says that those who did got the bigger deer. "The snow was three- to four-feet deep at the higher elevations, and hunting was from horseback...that's hard hunting!" he says. "We saw lots and lots of animals where we were. It was cold, but after glassing from the truck, the stalks were simple."
Cullen gave the outfit excellent marks except for food and equipment. "The food was fair...things like instant mashed potatoes and the same soup for three days...but I did not go there to ride in brand new trucks or eat five-star food. I would highly recommend Elkhorn Outfitters for mule deer and plan on returning next year."
Cullen gives the price of his hunt as $5,700. Contact Elkhorn Outfitters by phone at 281-824-1460 or on the web........(continued)
