Also hunting with Luke Samaras Safaris, Helmut Siebock of Austria reports taking a full-maned lion, along with a leopard, three buffalo, a hippo and some plains game. His PH was Norbert Reiner, and he hunted the LL3 of the Selous, plus U4, RU1 and MS1. Leopards were quite abundant, as he filmed two different cats around the skinning shed and saw another five during his hunt. He is so happy with his experience that he has rebooked for 2011 for 21 days in Masailand. Siebock does not give a cost for his hunt either.
Phil Majerus hunted with Hilary Daffi Safaris with PHs Andrew and Asanelle in Luanda South, bordering Ruaha National Park. He hunted lion, leopard, elephant and plains game on a 21-day package. While he passed on two "fair" lions looking for a big one, he did shoot a 170-pound leopard and a 52-pound elephant (see Trophy Snapshots). He says they saw 10 legal bulls from the truck and that he shot his within the first hour of his hunt. He says the area was very dry and plains game and buffalo were scarce. Despite the dry conditions, he reports that the cats and elephant were abundant.
And Richard Haykel hunted with Robin Hurt Safaris in Msawa Makao Game Reserve with PH Gordie Church this past August. He says he did not take a lion because they could not find an old male, but he did kill a Cape buffalo and a number of other plains game.
