Reguera says Luabo is a good area for buffalo, waterbuck and some sable and hippo. The Cahora Bassa Lake concession, which borders the Zambezi River for more than 100 kilometers, is excellent for crocodile, hippo and leopard. Although it is poor in general for plains game, the bushbuck hunting is good there. Also, Reguera says they have a nice camp offering very good fishing for tigerfish.
Reguera was at Cahora Bassa Lake just this past August with one of his PHs. They were preparing the camp for upcoming safaris at Luabo, which is very wet and huntable only after September. The hunting season at Cahora Bassa Lake was just finishing, and they had one last leopard license available. Rather than leave it unfilled, Reguera says they decided to make a last-ditch effort for a cat before the season ended. They put up a leopard bait early in the morning, and by 9 am he says it had been hit by a cat. By 7 pm that evening, they had a big leopard down.
