The other report was from Allan Cilliers of Allan Cilliers Hunting Safaris. Continuing subscribers will remember Cilliers acquired the East Kavango Concession last year when Namibia finally completed its long-awaited auction of government hunting concessions after a delay of six years. After no hunting for so long, expectations for all of these concessions were high, and Cilliers told The Hunting Report that his clients were certain to take some big elephant in East Kavango. (See Article ID 2414.) He was not exaggerating. Two of his clients this season had taken bulls in the 80-pound range when I communicated with Cilliers early last month. He says he started hunting in May with two Spanish clients who could hunt for only seven days. One killed a nice 61x62 pounder on the second day of the hunt. The other client, Carlos Monteverde, killed a dandy 80x75 pounder (see photo in our online Trophy Gallery). Cilliers says they tracked the bull 15 kilometers before catching up to him at midday on the sixth day of the hunt. Later in August, Javier Aquilis Garcia killed an 83x79 pounder on the 10th day of his hunt. Cilliers also guided an American hunter who turned down a number of 60 pounders and one 70 pounder.
