Krenchel says he did this hunt right after a roe buck hunt in Poland with his son, where he says they got their bucks but found the guiding could have been better. He says he was relieved to find that his Bulgarian PH "Minko" was everything he hoped for. "He knew every corner of the mountains and where we had to go," writes Krenchel. "It was almost too easy. I had two bucks on my first outing!" He reports taking a total of five trophies in five days of hunting, including a bronze medal boar that weighed 220 kilos (485 pounds) and had 20 centimeter tusks. He also reports seeing a wolf.
Krenchel recommends hunters come prepared for long-distance shots and be physically able to do lots of climbing. As for the services provided, he says, "The professionalism of the state forest service is very high, as well as the standard of service and care for the customer." Krenchel says Kotsev met him at the airport and accompanied him on the hunt, serving as interpreter. He says Kotsev (whose web site is in six languages, including, English, Spanish and German) was highly reliable and experienced in dealing with foreign hunters. He enthusiastically recommends the hunt to fellow subscribers interested in trying a different destination in Europe.
