Angelo Hionis (Report ID: 7229) from Pennsylvania and Paolo Monti (Report ID: 7633) from Milan, Italy, both have high praise for this hunt. Each took two wolves on five-day hunts. Hionis hunted near the end of January, 2009, Monti at the end of December that same year. Both tell us that Martin's outfit and service is good-to-excellent across the board. And both say that Martin has wolf hunting down to a science. Monti, who has hunted for 30 species on four continents, says, "Wolf hunting is not easy. This was not my first time, but I finally ended up with a double. Martin is hunting a huge area, and his record is outstanding. He is the most professional and experienced guide I ever met."
Hionis tells us that Martin hunts by maintaining some 60 bait sites spread out over a vast area. "There are plenty of wolves. This is wolf country, and you will see wolves. The method Martin uses is almost guaranteed. This is not a traditional sit-over-a-bait hunt. Instead, you visit bait sites traveling by pickup truck and/or snow machine. If you find signs of fresh wolf activity, the guide may try to call in the wolves. If they don't respond, the hunters are placed in strategic locations and a tracker on snowshoes will get the wolf or wolves moving and drive them past the waiting hunters."
This method is so successful, Hionis tells us, largely because "Martin has been hunting these wolves for over 35 years, so he understands the creatures very well. In most cases, he knows how the wolf will react in that situation. His guides and assistants are excellent........(continued)
