Jeter hunted early, from mid-April to early May, and says rain kept them in camp several days and limited some of the areas they could hunt. Also, the bush was very thick, making for what he says were some exciting encounters with elephant at close range in some cases, and preventing them from seeing some at all, after hours of tracking. "This is part of hunting early in the season," he warns. "One just needs to be aware this is going to happen when the bush is still in full foliage." He says he shot his bull within 20 yards.
