Zaitz hunted with Luis Romero of Desert-Hunt. If this outfitter sounds familiar, it's because we recently featured another report on him from subscriber Dallas Strait. (See the April issue or report ID 7693 in our database.) Zaitz booked her hunt through Bob Kern of The Hunting Consortium. Like Strait's hunt, Zaitz' hunt took place on Tiburon Island off the coast of Sonora.
"This was my first sheep hunt," Zaitz tells us, "and I wondered if I would be able to do it. It turned out that the terrain is rough for this hunt, and the more fit you are, the better. Being in good shape made it more enjoyable."
Luis Romero acted as her personal guide on this eight-day hunt, and she said he did everything possible to make her hunt a success. "It all has to do with what you are willing and able to do. If you don't want to spike out, you don't have to. Or if you are only able to go a certain distance, they will work with you. But if you are willing, they will go farther. The guides can walk many miles in a day, as many as needed to find the sheep. It turns out that we walked about 50 miles in total, but if you aren't able to do that, they will meet you where you are."
