Still, Brogan gives Baertle's outfit excellent marks overall and says he would recommend the hunt: "Hans does a great job and would not allow us to take a substandard bear." You can find a photo of Brogan's bear in the Trophy Gallery section of our web site (www.hunting report.com). He gives the cost of his hunt as $5,500.
Brogan told us in a follow-up phone conversation that he considers Baertle a recommendable outfitter and that he was satisfied with his spot-and-stalk hunt. "I was after a trophy bear, and we found one, though we only saw 10 bears in total on a 10-day hunt." He also told us that the outfitting was good overall, with home base a comfortable 50-foot boat with bunks, hot water, electricity and meals that included fresh produce prepared by a good cook. "But even with traveling eight- to 10-hours by boat before we began hunting," says Brogan, "we were still in an area where locals shoot whatever bear they see."
