Word on the SCI convention floor was that the new regulations would ban the hunting of leopard with dogs and implement a new quota system that would issue only two leopard trophy hunting permits to each Namibian operator. Literally as this issue went to press, I confirmed these details with Diethelm Metzger, president of the Namibian Professional Hunting Association who had just returned to Namibia from the SCI convention. According to Metzger, the new regulations were being gazetted the same day we communicated by e-mail and leopard hunting should open by June. Hunters with booked leopard hunts in Namibia should immediately contact their operators and agents to determine how their hunts will be affected and what their alternatives are.
