The key is good genetics backed up by good habitat. The ranch has irrigated food plots that ensure the deer have more than enough to eat throughout the year. What's really interesting here is the way Brittingham is marketing his deer hunts. He is calling his hunts here for bucks that gross score less than 160 B & C points "management" hunts. The price is $2,000, plus a $1,000 kill fee when you take a deer that scores up to 135. Above 135, you can add $200 per antler inch. Thus a 140 buck costs $4,000 total, a 145 is $5,000, a 150 is $6,000 and a 155 is $7,000. That's top dollar but not particularly outrageous in today's inflated market.
At Rancho Encantado, the odds are very good that you'll see a 150-class buck, and it's a virtual cinch that you'll see a buck that scores between 130 and 150. Last season's top management buck grossed 156. To be sure, there are much bigger deer than that on Rancho Encantado, but those megabucks are reserved for the ranch owner and his family. If you are interested in this hunt, the lodging is excellent and the whole operation is first class. All hunting is from comfortable........(continued)
