Not surprisingly, Romero gives Lancaster across-the-board excellent ratings on all aspects of the guiding and equipment. He writes, "For a long time, I had wanted to hunt a big cougar and lynx. I did a lot of research and found the Lancasters run one of the best outfits for these species in Canada, with a success rate close to 100 percent for both species in the same trip. I hunted with a friend, and we both were successful in taking cougars, lynx and bobcat. There were two other hunters in camp; we all went along on each chase, and in 10 days of hunting saw 10 cats treed.
"We hunted early in December 2008 in the Fraser Canyon area where Lancaster has a very nice lodge with all the amenities, including great food. Every morning we left the lodge very early and drove the snow-covered roads until we found fresh tracks. The team consisted of three and sometimes four trucks with three dogs each. The dogs are outstanding.
"Lancaster uses more resources than you might think are needed - the reason for their success. They have very good communications. Once a cat is treed, everyone gets together at the tree. Even though it is not your cat, you are present in everybody's hunt, which is an extra bonus. By the sixth day, my friend and I had taken all our cats, but we stayed there with two other hunters.
