Mthimkulu Reserve In South Africa Produces Big Elephant TrophyPublished: July - 2009 In South Africa's Mthimkulu Reserve, Brian Austin reports taking an elephant that weighed 70 x 65 pounds (See photo in our Trophy Gallery.) He hunted with PH Johan Hermann of Rigby Big Game Safaris in the Mthimkulu Reserve. You'll remember I first told you about this newly opened hunt area this past December (see Article ID 2185). This community reserve is in the Limpopo Province and encompasses 200,000 acres of communal lands. Hermann gets a limited quota for buffalo and elephant and conducts his hunts under a strict protocol that has been agreed to by the park and the Mbaula community that controls the area. All hunting is on foot.
