We have received another report on wolf hunting in Ontario with Peter Martin, of Kapriver Retrievers and Outfitters. Subscriber Angelo Hionis hunted with him this past January and says Martin's methods are almost guaranteed to produce wolves for every client. Martin operates in far northern Ontario where he has access to thousands of miles of bush country. Hunting is done by checking one of the 60 baits Martin sets up within 100 yards of a wooded area. If the bait has been hit, the guide checks the perimeter of the bait area to determine if the wolves have entered and bedded in the nearby woods. He sets the hunters around the perimeter and then enters the area to kick the wolves from their beds. Hionis says this method was very effective, giving all of the hunters in camp multiple opportunities to shoot a wolf. We says Martin and the guides know the wolf behavior so well, they can predict which way the animals will move from an area and where a hunter can expect an opportunity.
Hionis gives Martin an all-excellent rating and reports a cost of $2,250 for a five-day hunt.
