Hatzell reports seeing lots of deer and passing up on several bucks in the 160- to 170-plus range. He finally killed his trophy late on the fifth day of his hunt. Other hunters in camp took several bucks in the 170-range, and Hatzell says he saw a photo of a 200-class buck taken the first week of the season. He says that patient hunters should be able to take a buck here in the 175- to 185-range. He says he hunted with Molina the year before when the antler growth was affected by drought. Judging from the bucks he saw this season, he says good rains this year will produce more bucks in the 180- and 190-class.
He gives the outfitter an excellent rating and says the guides are knowledgeable, although their English is limited. He reports paying $8,500 for his hunt.
